Our Kindergarten Homeschool Curriculum for 2020-2021

So with four kiddos and homeschooling for over 1440 days (or year 9 for us), we may have a garage full of homeschool material that needs to be sold or donated. We have learned what does not work and what works for us, and we are forever tweaking our curriculum as it suits our family’s needs! Our kiddos are in Kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, and 8th grade! So here are our Kindergarten picks for this year!

Our Kindergartner Arden!

Our Kindergartner Arden!

  • Kindergarten:

    • Handwriting: The Good and the Beautiful

    • Math: Masterbooks 1 (and we supplement with Math Facts)

    • Bible: ABC Bible Verses by Susan B Hunt

    • Reading: ABC Hear, See Do (Books 1-5) and Everyday Learn and Play Little Lessons. We also do Sight words and Dash Into Learning Books Set 1 and 2!

    • Science: Masterbooks God’s Design for Life (for Beginners)

    • Social Studies (we are using a ton of books on diversity, inclusion, and black history)

So here are my thoughts so far on the curriculum we chose! The Good and the Beautiful for handwriting has been absolutely amazing! We love it! Our little one can do it independently while her brothers are working on their handwriting as well! I’m usually reading bible or history during handwriting! And it works out well! Math 1 for our daughter is not challenging enough, so we supplement with Math Facts! I would go up a level for Math using Masterbooks! I personally like Singapore Math better for my girls, but that’s just my personal preference!

We love ABC Bible verses and have used it for years! Reading we absolutely love love love ABC Hear See Do! It is super easy, and easy to follow, and our little one has learned so much! We also love Dash into Learning Book Set! Everyday learn and play has been a great supplement to our lessons! We have not started science yet because our book is on backorder, but I will review it soon! Our social studies lessons have been so good and enriching! I’m simply reading books that people send me! And it has been amazing! I’ll share more soon!

PS. I’ll be sharing what we are using for 2nd grade in a later blog post or follow me on Instagram!

I guess my tips for homeschooling Kindergarten is focus on fun, what they enjoy, and tons of learning through play. If you don’t get to everything on your list, it’s ok. Have grace. Have fun. Read a ton. Laugh a ton. Go outdoors. Allow your child to be a kid. I guess one of my greatest regrets as a new homeschool mom is being so anxious about getting it all right and expecting my child to graduate from Harvard at 10 years old. Now I look back on those days and wish I would have played more games, went outdoors more, enjoyed our time together! But I’m thankful for learning and growing through those anxiety ridden days of feeling like I had to be the perfect homeschool mama. There is no such thing! Do the best you can! Have grace! You got this mama! You are just the woman (or man) for the job! Until next time friend!
