7 Tips To Decluttering Your Clothes Today

I was a notorious shopaholic! I mean, y’all, I went into 25k in debt, and I think most of that debt was clothes and shoes. Now, I only have a little over 2k in debt left, but to even think that I spent 25k on clothes, shoes, trips, and all the things, blows my mind now! BUT! I try not to judge myself too harshly! And you shouldn’t either! If you have a ton of clothes and shoes and spent way too much over the years, it’s ok! Today is a new day! So let’s start decluttering:

  1. Have a real conversation with yourself! :) No really, have a conversation about what is important to you. What do you value? What do you want out of life, your finances, your closet space. The reason we need to evaluate your wants is because you don’t want to end up with too many clothes again 6 months from now, 12 months from now! So decide what is important to you!

  2. After you have evaluated what is important to you, now commit to going through one space at a time! Perhaps you have more time to go through your closet, but pick one space, one drawer, one side. And commit to getting that space done, today! Commit to one space, if you get more done, great, but start small!

  3. After you have committed to one space, decide what you will keep, donate, sell. Here is my system. Will I wear it? Have I worn it? Does it fit? Do I feel amazing in it? Do I need to lose weight to fit it? If I need to lose weight to fit into it, it probably needs to go. I should feel great in my clothes not pressure to lose weight. So make your piles and donate the things that cannot be sold. Sell the things on Poshmark, Mercari, or Facebook Marketplace

  4. Keep a box or bin in your closet so that you can do a purge/decluttering regularly.

  5. After you have committed to one space, give yourself permission to do one space at a time, until your closet brings you joy! You do not have to get it all done in one day!

  6. Make sure that when you bring in a new item of clothing, you get rid of an item of clothing! This practice will help you manage your clothing in a way that prevents clutter. You can be proactive by doing a monthly or quarterly closet declutter!

Decluttering your clothes does not have to be overwhelming! You can do it in a way that reflects your values and makes you feel peace when you walk into it! Take the overwhelm out of it by starting today and starting small! You got this friend!

Until next time,
