5 Tips to Organize Your House during the Pandemic

During this difficult and uncertain time of a global pandemic, most people are having to shelter in place and stay home. When you are in your home 24/7, you begin to realize that things have piled up or no longer function as intended. Some are taking the time to declutter and reorganize while they are home. However, looking at your entire living space and thinking about all the clutter and disorganization can be very overwhelming and disheartening. Here are five tips to get started.

  1. Start small. You do not need to overhaul your entire living space in a day. Start with the junk drawer we all have or a bedside table.

  2. Only do one project at a time. I know many people start one project which leads to the entire house. Focus on just the one task like the junk drawer and then walk away when finished. There is no need to do everything in one day.

  3. Do what works for you. Everyone is not going to want every space organized the same way. Everyone is different and unique and how they like things arranged will be unique to their needs. Some people need things they use on a daily basis on the counter where as others like everything to be put away. Again, do what works for you and your needs and taste.

4. If you find things that you forgot you owned or no longer have a need for, start a Goodwill or donation bag for others who may have be in need. However, if it is damaged or broken, throw it out. It is not servicing a purpose to anyone.

5. Use what you have. There is no need to go out and buy containers and bins to hold things. I bet if you look around your house, you will find containers or bins that you no longer have a use for that can serve a new purpose.

Overall, take your time and do what is best for you and your family. Enjoy the peace of having a decluttered and organized space brings you.
